Port Werburgh Park - Local information To the back of Port Werburgh Park Home Estate is woodland which is designated a site of special scientific interest. There are plenty of walks nearby, including one along the ancient Saxon forshaw. Local facilities are good although you’re only 10 minutes walk from the village, where there is a good selection of shops, public houses, restaurants etc. A bus service runs from the village to the Medway towns of Chatham, Gillingham and Rochester. The Medway area of Kent has so much to offer with fascinating maritime, military and literary attractions as well as museums, leisure activities, nautical and countryside views. Charles Dickens, arguably England’s greatest novelist, grew up in Medway and Rochester is featured in many of his works. Medway has traditional riverside pubs and excellent restaurants to suit all tastes as well as busy shopping areas, street markets and modern leisure and sports centres, Cycle on the Sustrans Route or the Heron Trail. Walk and see many species of wild birds on the Medway Valley Path and Saxon Shore Way which run along the river and its estuary. |
