Year of anniversaries

It’s a year of anniversaries for Tingdene Homes. Whilst we’ve celebrated our 50th year at the forefront of design and manufacturing in the park homes and holiday lodge industries, two loyal and long-serving stalwarts of the business have recently celebrated their thirtieth employment anniversary with the company.

Before the heady days of 1990’s Britpop and with many of our modern celebrities still just a glint in their father’s eye, Phil Mortimer and Duncan Reynolds were bracing themselves for their first day with Tingdene Homes on a Spring morning in May 1989.

On those early days with the company, Phil recalls: “I was 16 years old – finished school on the Friday, and the following Monday I was being picked-up to start with Tingdene. That first day was an eye-opener, going straight from the classroom to the factory and the working world of the 1980s! But the thing I always remember is the warm family feeling – and that’s still here to this day.”

Phil’s long-standing colleague Duncan joined just ten days later, with aspirations to become a carpenter and having cut his teeth working in a local tannery. He said: “I actually joined Tingdene as a labourer, but kept picking up new skills and experiences, which meant I could progress through the company. I’ve been a carpenter, a supervisor, and was the main Mill supervisor for 15 years, so it’s been a really diverse three decades for me – no two days are ever the same at this place.”

Thirty years later and the pair have been central to the success of the company. And despite never working in the same team, they consider each other firm friends – bound by a fondness for local football and a shared passion for quality craftsmanship.

Tingdene’s Managing Director, Ian Wilkins said: “It’s amazing to think how production techniques and technology has changed over the past three decades. But Phil and Duncan have been through it all – evolving and adapting their skills and knowledge to provide thirty years of amazing service. That kind of loyalty is really quite rare these days, and it’s something we truly appreciate.”

Looking ahead to the next thirty years, Phil can see technology continuing to drive change – and continues to be excited by the potential improvements to both design trends and production efficiency. Duncan’s also excited about the future, and a well-deserved retirement.

The directors and team at Tingdene expressed their gratitude with the presentation of a service award and champagne to celebrate Phil and Duncan’s shared anniversary.
